Sorry I couldn't be there with you, but wanted to do a quick overview of my thoughts on crates and storage for the GHL FabKit.

I'm feeling like there ought to be a large outside box that protects the contents. It needs to be strong yet easily assembled and disassembled, and is sized based on a standard shipping container. This box could be knocked down and reused for other FabKit shipments, or used as an on-site storage container for the contents of the FabKit

Inside this "crate" are a series of inner boxes that hold the FabKit "stuff". Based on conversations with David over the years, here are the design thoughts that led me to the stitch-able box. Hopefully a sample will get to you in Chile to play with, although the last I heard Sallye and Jeanne are stuck in the Miami airport!

They be somewhat material agnostic and be able to be built out of a variety of materials without having to do accurate thickness measurements.

Limit the hardware needed to assemble them. I've used cable ties and paracord to stitch those together, but you could recycle electrical wire, string, or anything similar that can be twisted or tied. And having lots of attachment points means that you can use all of them in areas that need strength, like the sides to the bottom, but fewer where it’s not needed as much.

Damaged parts could be replaced on-site using hand power tools and existing parts as templates, or new parts created using cnc-cut templates. Ideally they should be modular so that they can be assembled in multiple ways. This would not only make customizing storage easier, but would also make it easier to design and share other things that could be assembled from the parts. The finger spacing of that crate is 4", but that's just an arbitrary size. Modularity would also make it easier to create accessories like dividers, lids, protective packaging...

I don't in any way claim that this is the only or the best way to build them, but I feel like it has some advantages that might be worth exploring. Whatever system is decided on though should fit these criteria.
